What's new in Claude — and what it means for EdgePointe

Research briefing · July 18, 2026 · a ~4-minute catch-up
Seven cards, about 30 seconds each. You get the so-what; Paul carries the detail. Everything here is drawn from this week's research report — no new claims.

Three items sharpened enough to act on this week Act this quarter

Two days on from our baseline report, the picture is stable — but three things moved from "watch" to "do something."

  • The M-C-P specification is finalized, dated July 28 — with a new way for tools to show a live interface right inside a chat.
  • Claude Code Artifacts turns a working session into a shareable live page — a ready-made client deliverable.
  • The Sonnet 5 intro-pricing clock is ticking — cheaper rates only through August 31.
Bottom line: nothing here is speculative anymore — these are dated releases with real deadlines.
Feature 1 · the platform bet

The MCP spec is final — and tools can now show a UI Impact High · Effort Medium

What it is
M-C-P is the open standard that lets any assistant talk to outside tools. The finalized spec (July 28) adds "MCP Apps" — a tool can return a live interface inside the chat, not just text — and it's backed by Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and Microsoft.
Why it matters
An MCP-enabled Vantage becomes operable from whatever assistant a client already uses — and a Vantage tool could render its own booking or dashboard screen right in the chat.
How EdgePointe uses it
Build a Vantage MCP server on our existing Workers and D1 stack — bookings, leads, reviews, analytics as tools — and ship a booking widget as an MCP App. The stateless design fits Workers perfectly.
Bottom line: a durable differentiator no template-site competitor can offer.
Feature 2 · client deliverable

Claude Code Artifacts — a shareable live page falls out of our work Impact Medium · Effort Low

What it is
A Claude Code session becomes a private, live, shareable web page that updates in real time, with version history and rollback — now in beta on Team and Enterprise plans.
Why it matters
A polished, link-shareable deliverable comes out of work EdgePointe already does — no separate build step.
How EdgePointe uses it
Publish QBR dashboards, Vantage site-audit walkthroughs, and WebDesigner build progress as artifacts for Bob, Niven, and clients.
Bottom line: it's a beta, so keep sensitive client data out — fine for dashboards and walkthroughs.
Feature 3 · the pricing clock

Sonnet 5 — the runtime model, cheaper only until Aug 31 Hard deadline · Aug 31

What it is
The most capable agent-focused Sonnet yet, near the Opus 4.8 flagship on many tasks. Intro pricing runs at two dollars in / ten dollars out per million tokens through August 31, then rises to three / fifteen.
Why it matters
It's the sweet-spot runtime model for Vantage AI — and the pricing window is a hard deadline for a margin decision.
How EdgePointe uses it
Benchmark the receptionist chat, the Ask Vantage copilot, Reach commentary, and blog drafting on Sonnet 5 now, and lock the per-tier model matrix before September 1.
Bottom line: the single most time-boxed decision on the list — do this first.
Feature 4 · the biggest unlock

Managed Agents — scheduled, server-hosted, no infrastructure Impact High · Effort Medium

What it is
A server-hosted agent harness with built-in scheduling, webhooks, and memory — no scheduler to build or maintain.
Why it matters
It closes two named Vantage roadmap gaps with zero scheduler infrastructure.
How EdgePointe uses it
Build the done-for-you blog service and the weekly competitive-research report as scheduled agents that publish straight into Vantage. Charge them into Growth Plus and Concierge.
Bottom line: still the biggest single unlock — not ZDR or HIPAA-eligible, so keep it to marketing and content.
The bottom line · what to do

Sell outcomes, not tools — and beat the clock 5-minute catch-up complete

Cheaper, more capable agents are landing in SMB hands, so the counter is to sell managed outcomes, not access to tools.

  • Benchmark Sonnet 5 across every Vantage runtime AI before August 31.
  • Prototype a Vantage MCP server against the July-28 spec, with a booking app.
  • Ship the blog + research report on Managed Agents.
  • Adopt Artifacts as our client-deliverable format for QBRs and audits.
Bottom line: one hard deadline (Aug 31), one durable bet (MCP), one revenue unlock (Managed Agents).
